Laurie became a member of The Society of Notaries Public of BC in 1986, operating a busy and successful practice in Sidney with her business partner Lisa Ehrlich.
Laurie served on the Notary Society’s Board of Directors for ten years, and during that time she sat on the Membership & Credentials, Public Relations, By-laws, and Discipline Committees. She also served as a Governor of the Notary Foundation for six years.
Laurie’s Sidney notarial practice focuses on the senior’s based population and she is widely known for her experience in wills preparation, powers of attorney and representation agreements. Laurie has been active in the New Notaries educational program, teaching the sections on Wills & Estate Planning.
Laurie has previously served on the Boards of the SANCHA Foundation, Big Brothers and Sisters and Victoria AM as well as serving for 6 years on the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
G. W. (Wayne) Braid is a BC Notary and Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of The Society of Notaries Public of BC. His diverse responsibilities include guiding The Society and its member Notaries to fully embrace the wonders of technology.
Wayne also serves as Executive Officer of the Notary Foundation. Through his leadership and direction, the Foundation has broadened the scope and delivery of services and funding to legal support groups across British Columbia.
He is a frequent presenter to organizations in communities around our province and internationally.
Susan Mercer was a member of the Society of Notaries Public of BC from 1986 to 2013 and has served on the Board of Directors for 12 years, as President, Vice-President, Education, Finance, Audit, Insurance, Pro Suite and Executive Committees. She currently serves as immediate past-President. She also has the honour of being chosen by her fellow board members to sit on the Board of Governors of the Notary Foundation.
The first recipient of the annual Dr. Bernard Hoeter Award for the highest marks achieved on the Notaries’ statutory exams, Susan also received two bursaries recognizing her excellent marks in the Urban Land Economics diploma program at UBC.
In community service, she is a past President of the Sidney Rotary Club and served 3 years as a Director of the Peninsula Community Association. Susan’s tenure with Rotary included training in public speaking, conflict resolution and meeting etiquette. As a young mother, Susan volunteered in all of her children’s extracurricular activities including Scouts Canada, Swim Club and the Greater Victoria Youth Rowing Society, as well as the Sidney cooperative preschool and many school-related activities.
In her private life, Susan lives in Sidney, BC with her husband Dan. Between the two of them, they have three grown children and eight wonderful grandchildren. Susan and Dan enjoy travelling and exploring different parts of the world.
Lisa moved to Sidney from Oregon when she met her future husband David Ehrlich. She came to work at Salvador Davis, while studying Business Administration at Camosun College. She continued her education for an additional two years at the University of British Columbia, completing the Notary Program. Lisa was awarded the prestigious Dr. Hoeter Award for highest marks in the province.
Lisa continues to work tirelessly to ensure her clients receive the best possible care and attention.
Lisa has extensive experience in conveyancing and mortgage documentation. She is especially thorough in dealing with first time home buyers and financing issues. Lisa practices with the most up to date technology and information systems. She is always keen to learn evolving and new areas of land registry through embracing technology.
Lisa’s professionalism and unwavering sense of fairness makes her an excellent board member.
Lisa lives in Sidney with her husband Dave and their two sons.
Shelby has been employed by Salvador Davis and Co. for the past 9 years.
During that time she has managed many estates and mastered the art of looking after elderly clients who can no longer look after their own affairs.
Shelby graduated for Parkland Secondary School. She completed the Legal Office Assistant program in 2005 at Camosun College and received the BC Notaries and Notary Foundation Award for academic excellence and leadership. She has also completed a personal income tax course with honours.
Her technical training and finely tuned interpersonal skills make her an excellent board member.
Shelby lives on the Saanich Peninsula with her husband Steve and is a mother of five.
Cathleen, the great-niece of Dr. Margaret E. Nix, grew up with her aunt emphasizing the importance of education especially for women. A self-proclaimed life-long learner, Cathleen consistently pursues opportunities that allow her to advance her skills and knowledge.
She is an Account Executive at Safe Software. Specializing in data solutions for local and regional governments, and transportation, retail, and real estate industries, Cathleen helps organizations get the resources they need to solve their data challenges. With over 10 years of experience working in GIS, local government, and location analytics, she is experienced in project and data management.
Cathleen resides in Vancouver with her fiancé Chris; when not playing with her German Shepherd “Griffy” she is an avid hockey player, bookworm and a “with any luck this will grow” gardener.
